Inspiration and Motivation
Sonny has been a dedicated member of New Life Fitness World for two years and seven months. After the urging of his wife and the threat of family health problems, he decided it was time to make a change. Sonny’s brother saw an ad in the paper for New Life Fitness World prompting Sonny to visit the gym and see what there was to offer. New Life turned out to be the first and only gym Sonny would visit, offering just exactly what he was looking for. Carrying his gym bag to New Life five days a week, Sonny keeps a constant reminder of the man he used to be—an old picture of himself is his inspiration and his refusal to “be THAT guy anymore.” His motivation is seeing senior body building competitors on stage well into their 60s and beyond.
Dedication and Perspiration
Sonny will be the first to tell you he does not believe in diets. He believes in discipline. A diet can fail, a person can fail, but if you remain disciplined, THEN you will see the benefits of a proper food intake. Sonny keeps track of every calorie in and out of his body and is currently taking in 1900 to 2000 calories a day while leading a very active lifestyle with his family, the church, two jobs AND hours a day, five days a week at New Life Fitness World. With his heartrate monitor linked to his computer, he is able to tell you that over the past two years he has burned somewhere between 208,000 and 212,000 calories per year at New Life Fitness World. All his vitamins and minerals are acquired through his commitment to good foods. “In pill form, there is no way of knowing that all vitamins and minerals are assimilated properly,” says Sonny. His commitment to an all natural intake carries over to his supplement usage as well. Sonny only uses a pre- and post-workout drink with an evening protein shake, refusing to use a weight loss supplement. “The hard work means more.”
Even though Sonny’s story alone is a great example of what hard work and dedication can do, on October 16th, 2010, he will compete in the 45 to 54-year-old class of the Best of the Midwest N.A.N.B.F. at Roosevelt School in Cedar Rapids, IA. We encourage everyone to go out and cheer him on to victory!
